Located in the small town of Martinsville, NJ, this project consists of two 9,600 square foot office buildings totaling 19,200 square feet. The site is bordered on one side by Chimney Rock Road and on the other three sides by residences. When the project was presented to the town’s planning board, zoning board of adjustment, and architectural review committee, concern was expressed by several neighbors about having two commercial office buildings located adjacent to their homes. Because of the projects location, we designed the buildings with a sensitivity to the neighborhood and used stone and stucco, divided lite windows, and features which resembled chimneys on the façade. Some of these “chimneys” actually conceal pre-fabricated metal vent pipes for heating equipment and vents for gas-fired fireplaces in some of the offices. The neighbors approved of the buildings appearance and the project was approved and built.
